VB197 Christians and Politics
Christians and Politics
As Christians, we should walk the straight and narrow, honoring our Lord in everything we say and do. Too often we think of kingdom work as ministry for the church only.
We forget that our compassion and works should include important positions in society. All our activity should be seasoned with salt and light. How can we make disciples of all the nations (Mt 28:19), without being involved in some kind of politics? Christians ought to be engaged in every facet of society.
Without godly people being involved in politics, evil will fill those places. The last couple of decades have proven it, here in America.
Our country was founded on godly principles. But we have let it slip away a chunk at a time.
We, as a nation have believed a lie of the devil. And the church and state relationship was all but destroyed, while the rest of the world depends on America. We used church for baby sitting and entertainment, the seats in our government were quickly filled with evil unbelievers.
Many folks have never learned much of the Bible. And we can’t afford to forget how to use the Word of God!
2Tim 3:16-17 (ESV) – [16] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Second Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that God’s Word trains us in righteousness, and equips us for “every good work.” The Bible is not only for the spiritual things and personal faith, it pertains to everything relating to mankind’s common good. All that we say or do.
Since believers understand God’s truth, and are equipped to apply godly principles to every legitimate endeavor. It is good to have Christian involvement and influence in every aspect of society especially politics. The Scripture doesn’t condemn workers in political positions.
A true believer (doer of the Word) makes the best equipped worker in any trade or profession.
It is sickening when a politician miss-quotes the Bible, while trying to appease Christian voters. It is disgusting to have an elected official mock and despise God’s people.
Everything is messed up. Many people, who are equipped with the Word of God, fail to follow the Spirit and end up in the wrong occupation. There are pastors who are not called to preach.
There are people who understand the Word of God and feel a leading of Holy Spirit, thinking they are called into ministry.
When they should have allowed the Spirit to anoint their skill set as plumbers, carpenters, or even political leadership instead. They should have been salt and light to plumbers or carpenters. The result is unqualified pastors who work really hard to keep enough followers in order to pay the church bills, instead of addressing sinfulness from the pulpit.
If Jesus is your Lord, going into political work shouldn’t make you any less Christian. But be ready for some pressure. Spiritual darkness hates the light. If you are a representative of God’s light (1Jn 1:5-7), you will be hated (Mt 10:22).
It makes sense that Christians should be involved in politics at all levels, influencing what government does or doesn’t do. If we don’t restrain and properly direct governmental power, that power will eventually be abused by those that reject our values, and our God.
Pr 29:2 (NASB) –When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked person rules, people groan.
We need a moral foundation (or biblical worldview) in our government in order to evaluate and judge all decisions and actions. Wisdom is needed to manage and exercise power.
You say that this information is not for you personally, that you will never run for a government office. Hey, we are in agreement! I too will probably never seek an elected position. However, you and I are called to pray for our government.
1Tim 2:1 (NASB) –First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people,
It is your job, and mine, to pray for our citizens and our government.
Let’s pray together:
Lord, we pray that all of our governing officials will have wisdom to evaluate and judge all decisions and actions within their power.
Lord, help these men and women make right decisions. Wisdom is needed to manage our country’s affairs.
Lord, we pray for those who are seeking to be elected for office. Give them boldness to stand on godly principles as they campaign.
Lord, help us to support these offices with our prayers. Help us lord, to know which candidate we should support.
Give us discernment on what proposed laws are just, and who should get our vote. Amen!
Remember: Whatever stands between you and your Bible is your enemy!
God bless you my friend,
