VB152 Reality of Righteousness
You Are the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
Reality of Righteousness
[Isa 32:15-18; Ps 23:3; Isa 54:14,17 Mt 5:6; 6:31-34; Rom 4:1-8]
Rather than talk about STRESS, FAILURE, and DEPRESSION—We will preach The RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ Jesus!
We should not only realize what we have been saved from, we should focus on that which we are saved unto. Our testimonies should be geared more toward who we are in Christ than what we were in our former condition in the world.
There is a force at work in righteousness (Isa 32:17; 54:14-17). This force makes sin as though it never existed, as though Adam never sinned! I believe this can be enjoyed right now, even as we are being prepared for the millennial kingdom where all people will realize righteousness.
Righteousness is by the re-creating power of Holy Spirit (Isa 32:15-18)
Isa 32:15-18 (NASB) – [15] Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fertile field, And the fertile field is considered as a forest. [16] Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, And righteousness will remain in the fertile field. [17] And the work of righteousness will be peace, And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. [18] Then my people will live in a peaceful settlement, In secure dwellings, and in undisturbed resting places;
When the Spirit is poured out it makes a way, and a place for righteousness. The work (or fruit) of righteousness is peace and security.
Righteousness is realized by following the Holy Spirit, “He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake,” (Ps 23:3 KJV).
Ps 23:3 (NASB) –He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For the sake of His name.
Righteousness is inherited (Isa 54:14,17).
Isa 54:14,17 (NASB) – [14] “In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you.
[17] “No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And you will condemn every tongue that accuses you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.
In righteousness you will be Established; The primary action of this verb is to cause to stand in an upright position, so the word also means fixed or steadfast.
Oppression can be personal, political, military (Eccl 5:8; Isa 54:14). Oppression is not to be a way of life for God’s people (Ps 62:10). Oppression or fraud is not the mark of a righteous person (Ezek 18:18). We do not fear, and terror avoids us!
No weapon that is formed against you will succeed. And you will condemn — is a causative verb; the Lord will judge and declare the guilty (1Kgs 8:32). Every tongue that accuses you in judgment (a legal case, or a claim against you) will backfire upon the accuser.
Heritage (inherited property, by means of a will assigned by God to His people) of the servants (slaves). This is not a blanket promise for just any churchgoer. The Lord specifically says, this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. Are you a servant of the Lord? If so, you can rest easy in His promised protection. The Lord also says that this is a promise for those whose vindication (righteousness) is from Me – from the Lord Himself – and not from themselves.
The phrase, “servant of the Lord,” is the most outstanding reference to the Messiah in the Old Testament. You can study this teaching which is concentrated at the end of Isaiah (Isa 42:1, 19; 43:10; 49:3, 5-7; 52:13; 53:11). This plural form is not only prophesying about Messiah, but Christ-like ones as well.
Some of the realities of righteousness are in these covenant promises through Christ;
- You will be established.
- You will be far from oppression and fear.
- No weapon formed against you will succeed.
- Your accusers will be judged.
- This is inherited property of the servants of the Lord.
We are joint heirs with Jesus (Gal 4:4-7; Phil 2:5-6,15; Col 1:12-22; 1Jn 3:1-2; Rev 1:4-6).
We are NOW sons of God. As sons (joint-heirs) we have been made the righteousness of God (Rom 5:15-18, 10:3-10; 2Cor 5:17-21, 6:14).
Jesus said they shall be satisfied!
Mt 5:6 (ESV) –Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Every child of God has the same standing with the Father, because righteousness cannot be obtained through works (Rom 9:30-32).
Righteousness is a force (Isa 32:17; 1Cor 15:34) — it will stop sin.
Matthew 6:31-34 tells us it will produce what we eat, drink, and wear, along with protection and security for the next day.
Mt 6:31-34 (ESV) – [31] Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ [32] For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. [33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. [34] “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Paul’s letter to the Romans describes the reality of righteousness so well:
Rom 4:1-8 (ESV) – [1] What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? [2] For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. [3] For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” [4] Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. [5] And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, [6] just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: [7] “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; [8] blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”
Jesus has satisfied and covered all the sin of the world. All the people in lawlessness, those who lie, everyone who cheats and steals can be saved, in Jesus’ name, by faith. If they receive Jesus as Lord, they shall be saved!
When you are justified, you are “just-if-I’d!” Just if I – had never sinned! To be justified makes us righteous.
Prayer:
Lord, pour out your Spirit… When the Spirit is poured out it makes a way and a place for righteousness. This force of righteousness makes sin as though sin never existed, as though Adam never sinned!
Righteousness is realized by following the Holy Spirit, “He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake,” (Ps 23:3 KJV).
I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! Amen!
