Listening For Directions

[Rom 8:14-16]

Romans 8:14-16 (NKJV) –For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. [15] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” [16] The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Led by the Spirit of God is the lifestyle of sons of God. Paul is encouraging us not to live according to the flesh, but to put to death the deeds of the body (v. 13). Therefore being “led by the Spirit of God” involves progressively putting to death the sinful appetites of the old nature. This implies that, while all Christians are in a general sense being led by the Spirit of God, there are increasing degrees of being led by the Spirit. The more fully people are led by the Spirit, the more completely they will be obedient to God’s will, and the more conformed to His holy standards.

The Greek verb for “led” could be translated, “continually being led.” This means more than just a conscious effort to know and obey the commands of Scripture. This is about being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit throughout your day. Genuine direction from the Holy Spirit will never lead you contrary to Scripture.

Verse 15 & 16 The Holy Spirit assures us that we are children of God.

My Confession:

I am a child of God, born of the Spirit of God, filled with the Spirit of God, and led by the Spirit of God. I ask the Holy Spirit questions and He answers me. I listen to my heart as I look to my spirit inside me. The more I am led by the Holy Spirit, the deeper my relationship is with my Lord.
