Don’t Tell Me Prayer Doesn’t Work
I’ve been praying with a friend for some time. We have seen healings and joy come for others as well as for ourselves. Back in July or August my friend, in his early 80’s wanted to learn more about sharing the gospel.
So, I prayed and pointed him to the Scriptures and a couple episodes of Victory Briefings. He received the blessing of being bold in speaking the Word, and sharing the gospel.
We had been praying for his daughter and significant other who have been living together for years. They were lost and on drugs, in the world, and Holy Spirit and some angels were ready for action.
As summer changed to autumn, my friend talked to his daughter and her live-in boyfriend. Holy Spirit went to work, as He does, and the couple got born again and were baptized. Praise God!
Now it is winter and my friend called today with a praise report. The conversation began with “don’t tell me that prayer doesn’t work!” My spirit jumped for joy, and I answered, “Well, what?”
His choked-up voice said, “they made a special trip and came today so that…, (the fella) could ask for my daughter’s hand in marriage!”
That is fruit that remains. It’s the result of coaching a little bit, and witnessing a little bit, and praying for Holy Spirit to do the leading in the work and growth on everyone’s part. To God be the glory!
Now they will be a completed Christian family with a head and a helpmate, and their whole lives are gonna continue to be changed. These folks are going to be valuable to each other and an asset to God’s kingdom. It’s gonna be awesome to see what happens next, and blessings to see how they will grow in the spiritual realm. So, don’t tell me that prayer doesn’t work!
Col 1:9-14 (ESV) –[9] And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, [10] so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. [11] May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, [12] giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. [13] He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, [14] in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
1:9 “heard of it” Paul did not start this church, nor did he know its members personally. He heard about their faith and love from its founder, Epaphras (cf. Col 1:7-8).
“we have not ceased to pray for you” The plural refers to Paul and his mission team.
Leaders should constantly hold up their flocks to the Lord. (See, Intercessory Prayer Outline). Prayer is not optional. Prayer is crucial for effective Christian living and ministry (cf. Eph 6:18-19; Rom 12:2; Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17).
There are thousands of churches that do not pray. And thousands of excuses for not having regular prayer meetings.
Christ in us the hope of glory, He lives in us now, a living ark of the covenant. We rise up in authority and scatter the enemy.
Declare with me:
We decree that the company of believers across this nation shall be filled with a heavenly and holy boldness. We declare that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ shall stand confident in her message without wavering.
Remember: Whatever stands between you and your Bible is your enemy!
God bless you my friend,
