VB012 The Word of Christ
The Word of Christ
[Jn 8:31-32; 15:7-8; Col 3:16] taken from Walk In The Word
At my Bible College Graduation Banquet, Dr. Lester Sumrall delivered an awesome message on “Walking in The Word.” Which included the following verses;
John 8:31-32 –Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; [32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 15:7-8 –If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. [8] Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
And he finished with,
Colossians 3:16 –Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
After speaking, Brother Sumrall did an interesting thing. He auctioned off his sermon notes to raise money to begin the next year’s scholarship fund for World Harvest Bible College. “Who will give ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to jump-start the scholarship program?” He waved the pages of notes above his head. As the price quickly diminished, he just grinned and looked at the faces of his students. Finally a classmate stood up with some money in hand.
The winner of the auction was on his way back to his table when he turned and said, “Hey, these are blank sheets of paper!” Brother Sumrall replied, “You just paid $100.00 for a valuable lesson. When you are preaching to your congregation, deliver the Word of God from your heart, not from a piece of paper. God bless you for your great generosity toward a next year student.” A great applause was followed by the benediction.
Colossians 3:16 (NASB) Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Word of Christ: The Greek phrase, Logos Christos, (log’-os) and (khris-tos’) the word (something said) of the anointed, the Messiah. The sayings of Jesus.
Richly dwell within you is very strongly emphasized here.
Richly: the Greek word plousios (ploo-see’-oce) incredible abundance, extreme wealth, enormous affluence, great prosperity, immense riches, extravagant lavishness.
Dwell: the word, enoikeo, (en-oy-keh’-o) literally, to dwell in. This word is used with a spiritual significance only (2Cor 6:16; Rom 7:17, 8:11; Col 3:16; 2Tim 1:5, 14). The verb tense here is present imperative—a commitment to a long term way of doing something. A command to keep on doing an action as one’s general habit or life-style.
Admonish: noutheteo (noo-thet-eh’-o) to put in mind, i.e. (by implication) to caution or reprove gently – admonish, warn.
My declaration:
The Word of God dwelling in me produces spiritual wealth in me!
The words of Jesus live in my heart, making me abundantly rich in all true wisdom. The Holy Spirit directs and inspires my understanding and application of God’s Word.
My study and continual meditation on the Word has made it a permanent abiding part of my life. I am so wealthy with the word of Christ—He has become a part of my nature and that has put a song in my heart, enabling me to help others.
I am so filled with the riches of God’s Word that I automatically find myself admonishing and encouraging others in their faith.
I confess this by faith in Jesus’ name!
God bless you my friend,
