VB133 The Footstool
The Footstool
[Ps 110:1; Eph 1:28-23; Mt 10:1, 7-8; Acts 3:6; Rom 16:20]
Jesus is at the right hand of the Father until His enemies become His footstool. While Jesus is in heaven, our dependency should be on the Holy Spirit as we walk this earth, and He is waiting to put His feet on His footstool.
Ps 110:1 (NKJV) –THE LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
Make; to place.
Enemies; to hate (as one of an opposite tribe or party); hence to be hostile; be an enemy hating; an adversary; enemy, foe.
Footstool; hadom[H1916] (had-ome’) n. a foot stool. To stamp upon, a foot (as used in walking). Footstool (used of the conquering king placing his foot on the neck of the conquered).
The Lord God said to Jesus, “Sit down here until I place your enemies under Your feet, or until You step on Satan’s neck.”
How can Jesus walk around when He is seated? How will the Father put the Son’s feet up? Do you suppose that we have something to do with Jesus being comfortable? The answer to these questions is that we simply obey the great commission of the church.
In these last days we really need to develop our relationship with the Holy Spirit. We have our orders and the power to carry them out. But we must develop a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. We need to begin by realizing at least three things:
-
God sent us the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus to teach us all things (Jn 14:26).
-
The Holy Ghost gives us power to witness (Acts 1:8), and comforts us and strengthens us.
-
The Holy Spirit has provided us with righteousness, peace, and joy, (Rom 14:17).
Eph 1:18-23 (NASB) – [18] I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, [19] and what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might [20] which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, [21] far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. [22] And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and made Him head over all things to the church, [23] which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Jesus is the head of the body. You are the body of Christ, and the body has the feet. We go where the Spirit leads us, and we say what the Holy Spirit tells us to say. If we don’t put the enemy under our feet, then the enemy is not under the feet of Jesus. It was accomplished when Jesus went to heaven, but we must enforce it on the earth.
Mt 10:1 (KJV) And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
It is God’s power operating through us by the Holy Spirit which defeats the enemy. Power works by authority. We have been given authority over the enemy! We must obey in order to make the enemy a footstool.
Mt 10:7–8 (KJV) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. [8] Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
We never ask God to preach, but we do ask Him for healing and to rescue us from demons. Instead of asking God to do something that He commissioned us to do, we ought to obey His Word.
Don’t take the part of the verse about going and preaching the Word, and leave out the part about doing the Word. If you’re going to preach, then don’t ignore the healing, cleansing, raising, and the casting! We freely have received, so we should freely give; the gospel, healing, cleansing lepers, raising the dead, and casting out devils. Peter gave us a great example of fulfilling the commission when he healed the lame man at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful.
Acts 3:6 (KJV) Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Peter, directed by the Holy Spirit, used his authority to freely give what he had freely received. In the name of Jesus, Peter ministered this miracle in the character and power of Jesus. Peter shows us a footstool in the making! God is making the footstool through the body of Christ stepping on the neck of the enemy, as we operate in the Spirit.
Fellowship with the Holy Spirit (Jesus in you) and ask Him what to do next. He will tell you of things to come. He will give you instructions and comfort in these last days of the church age.
Instead of begging God and Jesus to do something, we need to talk to His Spirit inside of us and ask him what to do next. He will tell us of things to come. He will give us instructions and comfort us. We have to talk to Holy Spirit, and He will give us power to walk through whatever situation we are in at the time. He will help us to make a footstool out of our enemy.
Rom 16:20 (NASB) And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Be encouraged to persevere in resisting the wiles of the devil with the assurance that, as good soldiers of Jesus Christ, we will “soon” have the satisfaction of “putting our feet upon the neck” of the enemy.
God bless you my friend,
