VB106 They Will Prophesy

They Will Prophesy

[Jn 10:27; 1Cor 2:14; Eph 5:17-18; Acts 2:17-18]

Sharing our testimony of what God has done for us helps to develop an understanding for helping others. It is necessary to have a close relationship with the Lord and the assurance of hearing His voice, as we share His Word.

Jn 10:27 (NASB) –“My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;

The King James Version says “hear my voice.” But “listen,” is a better translation of the Greek. It means; listen, to engage the mind to comprehend what is being heard (i.e. hearken).

1Cor 2:14 (NASB) –But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Natural;” soulish, pertaining to the soul. That which is motivated and controlled through the soul (mind, will, and emotions). This refers to being worldly, focused on the natural senses, needs, and wants (opposed to spiritual).

Eph 5:17-18 (NASB) –[17] Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. [18] And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.

Debauchery” – (KJV) says, “be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess….” This comes from the Greek word G810 that describes an unsaved nature or manner of living. It implies; a reckless, squandering, wasteful way of life.

FilledG4137 means; to fully, completely fill. To cram, to fully supply, satisfy, “…with the Spirit.”

We must spend time walking with God to tune our ears to His voice. Our Spirit-filled relationship with Him will enable us to relay to others what we hear Him say.

Prophecy is not a deep and mysterious spiritual concept. It simply is hearing what God says and speaking it out loud. When we prophesy and release the words of God, we are not speaking for the listeners to hear and process with their natural minds. Instead, we are declaring God’s words with power and authority which are able to modify spiritual situations. It is our God-given authority to release light and life, and drive out darkness.

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told the disciples to go back to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father, for “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8). The word power is the Greek word dunamis, which means “a force, miraculous power, a miracle itself, strength, working of miracles.” When we receive the power or force from the Holy Spirit within us, it gives us the ability not just to work miracles, but also to live supernatural lifestyles, filled with His explosive might and strength.

Acts 2 then tells the story of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon those waiting in the Upper Room. Peter declared what was happening by quoting Joel 2:28-29:

Acts 2:17-18 (NIV) – In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. [18] Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

As we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we can all prophesy! Prophecy, dreams and visions are part of the promise of the Father that Jesus gave His Church to fulfill our commission in the earth. We are told to desire to prophesy (see 1Cor 14:39); that we can prophesy one by one (see 1Cor 14:31); and that we are to desire spiritual gifts but especially that we may prophesy (see 1Cor 14:1).

Look these scriptures up and do a Bible study!

We are also taught that we can prophesy according to the proportion of our faith (see Rom 12:6), even though we know only in part and prophesy in part (see 1Cor 13:9). First Corinthians 14:3-4 says that prophecy is for edification, exhortation and comfort, and it builds up the church. Revelation 19:10 tells us that “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” What an awesome gift God has given us – the Holy Spirit to authorize us to edify the church!

My Prophecy:

You, who are listening. This is an appointed time for hearing and following. That you are listening is not by mistake – this meeting with God’s Word is very important, as the time is short.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything, and hold fast to what is good. The Lord says, He never changes. The manifestation of Holy Spirit is for the entire church age. He did not take back gifts when apostles passed into his presence, they are alive in him, and the gifts are alive in us. It is time to listen and act on the promises of God.

My Prayer:

Father, have your Spirit meet with my friends, to hover over them. Reveal their thirst to be filled with the Spirit. Thank you for another opportunity to bless my friends in these last days.

In the name of Jesus, amen.

God bless you my friend,

Prophesy – “SIGH” = VERB
Prophecy – “SEA” = NOUN
